I’m so glad we found time for your trip to be well {groomed!} and am always thrilled to see you! Whether it’s a custom-for-you Fab Facial or the satisfying results of professional body sugaring, I want you to enjoy your treatments and make the most your smooth skin.
I’ve been an esthetician for many years now and based on my experience, here are some tips to consider so that the many splendid benefits of your treatments last.
PS: If you’ve been coming in for some time, you might not need to follow these suggestions as closely as you once did. One goal of treatment is to make your skin more resilient. However, we can all use a refresher on what to do and what to avoid. Hope this helps ya feel fabulous in your skin!
Drink up!
In general, we all need to drink water and eat hydrating foods. Especially the days prior (but not the hour or two just prior to your treatments so we avoid those mid-treatment bathroom trips). I like to prime my system with 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning (before the delish coffee).
Speaking of my favorite beverage, you’ll want to avoid caffeine, stimulating beverages and alcohol as they dilate capillaries and could lead to overstimulation and lingering redness or worse, irritation.
Hydrated tissues are simply more resilient and responsive to active treatments.
And you’ll want to continue flooding your body with fresh water and foods that deliver nutrient-rich hydration like watermelon, cantaloupe, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, peaches, zucchini, celery etc.
The Avoid List
Avoid extreme heat directly prior to and after treatments … this includes direct sun, working out, heated rooms, hot showers, hot tubs, steam and over-heated saunas. Over-stimulated skin can result in splotchy, reddened skin and sometimes tiny white histamine bumps delivering white blood cells and lymph.
Consider your at-home products and medications and let me know if you’re taking anything that might increase flushing like niacin, some anti-depressants and HRTs. Stop using active serums a few days prior to your appointment (includes AHAs, BHAs and retinoic acids). You can always email or text with questions on specific products. And, some conditions and medication require additional considerations for skincare treatments including Accutane, isotretinoin, pacemakers, eczema, psoriasis, slow wound healing and others. Please reach out and let’s discuss so we can safely & happily progress your skin’s journey.
The First 24 Hours After Treatments:
No sand, surf, hanky panky, hot tub, jacuzzi, hot yoga, spinning, long runs, dusty hikes, wet suits, cashmere clothing, tight jeans, tanning bed, direct sun exposure, body scrubs, European flights, active serums.
Other considerations:
- Don’t pick your skin! Open wounds and scabs can leave scars, be pathways for infection and prohibit skin treatments.
- Spray tan: do it after your facial or sugar, usually the next day will be perfect
- Facial sugaring works best at a separate time than a Fab Facial. However, the Celluma LED treatment can help to calm your skin post-sugaring.
- Botox: best after your facial
- Lash Extensions: get that fill post-facial
- Your Sig Other’s Rough Facial Hair: I have recommendations that can save your skin and help you plan for facial treatments and facial sugaring!
Got a big event coming up? Let’s make a plan.
Take a look at your calendar and plan treatments to start well in advance of your big day. One facial is a treat; three is a treatment … and you’ll be more aware of how your skin reacts to various treatments or exactly when your hair starts to grow back after sugaring. All of my Fab Facials are rejuvenating and give progressive results. And, you can Microcurrent weekly and Celluma 2-3 x/week leading up to your event.
Use Protection + SPF
Listen, we’re not gonna make the plans & do the work only to have it undone by UV exposure and oxidative stress … noooooooope! So, here’s the plan: stock up on SPF (here’s a handy link). Avoid long exposure (30 mins or more) to direct sun from noon to 2pm. Sport a chic hat. Reapply your SPF. Et, voilà!
Time to Unwind
Taking care of your skin and wellbeing will help bring your parasympathetic nervous system online so you relax. Non-sleep deep rest involves slowing down your brain wave frequency, similar to what happens during sleep, only that in this case you’re awake. And facials are great way to get you there (plus glowing skin!). Believe or not, many people find sugaring certain areas of the body to be extremely relaxing … and, it’s an opportunity for you to lay down midday and let someone do something for YOU. Whether you schedule your appointment for morning, midday or evening, you will leave be well {groomed!} feeling relaxed and refreshed.
